A Day of Learning, Growing, and Building

A Day of Learning, Growing, and Building

What a day it was! We started off the day with a wonderful, spirit-filled devotion led by Kheresa Harmon. She shared with us a story from her childhood where a huge storm almost hit her church and all the children at VBS were gathered in the sanctuary for safety. One lone light guided their way in the darkness. They couldn't see anything except that light. She challenged us to look for and follow that light in our lives. It was a truly powerful way to begin the day!

Although there were many rehearsals and lots of singing, today was about so much more. The All-Staters were challenged by Pepper in many ways. On the first full day of rehearsal, it is always exciting to hear the choir begin to form a unified sound. Some sectionals in the afternoon helped the All-Staters to nail down a few wandering notes. It is always truly amazing to see how quickly the All-Staters learn notes, words, and pull the songs together. Throughout the day, Pepper continued to build the sound of the choir while emphasizing tall vowels and challenging the All-Staters to sound like a collegiate group. I think they are really beginning to get the hang of it!

In the afternoon, the All-Staters had some free time. This welcome break found people Eno-ing, playing cards, strumming the guitar or banjo, sleeping, making new friends, or any number of other fun activities! Tryouts for solos and the talent show were taking place and I have never seen so much talent in one place! There were dozens of excellent solo auditions and many acts for the talent show. (Check back for that update after the talent show tomorrow!) The group continues to grow closer with each other as they are making new life-long friendships.

After all the singing and hard work of the day, the All-Staters were treated to Pelican "Sno Balls!" The cold "snow" was quite a treat after the scorching heat of the day! There were tons of flavors, friends, and frozen treats to be had all around.

We continue full-speed ahead as we rehearse all day tomorrow! Hope to see you at a concert some day this week (See schedule on the Home page) and check back in throughout the week for more updates! Continue to be in prayer that all voices stay healthy and that all feel the love and presence of God in their lives through the music and fellowship.
